This map is drawn for advocating the wide variety of animal species inhabitate in Taiwan. The fact is, many of them are endangered.
The animals in this map include:
Formosan Black Bear: Also known as the white-throated bear. The bear was voted the most representative wildlife of Taiwan.
Common Bottlenose Dolphin: Atlantic bottlenose dolphin is the most well-known species of the family Delphinidae.
Leopard Cat: a small wild cat. Since 2002 it has been listed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List.
Collared Scops Owl: An owl which is a resident breeder in south Asia. Listed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List.
aiwanese Macaque: Also known as the Formosan rock monkey. Besides humans, Formosan rock macaques are the only native primates living in Taiwan.
Manidae: the only extant family of pangolins. Sometimes known as scaly anteaters.
Paguma: Also called the gem-faced civet and masked palm civet. Listed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List since 2008.
Panda: also known as the panda bear or giant panda. Pandas have been upgraded from “endangered” to “vulnerable.”
Green Sea Turtle: Also known as the green turtle, black turtle or Pacific green turtle. Listed as endangered by the IUCN and CITES and is protected from exploitation in most countries.
